The micro-blogging website Twitter unveiled a new look on Tuesday, leaving most users shocked and disappointed. The new look is gradually being rolled out globally and has already reached India. It removes the profile with photo option on top left and has placed it under a slug called "Profile". "Today, we are starting to roll out a new Twitter.com – a refreshed and updated website that is faster, easier to navigate and more personalized. The site has an updated look and feel that is more consistent with the Twitter you see on other devices, making it easier to access some of your favorite features, and with more options to make it your own," Twitter said in a blog post.

The updated Twitter website brings more of What`s Happening along with access to other features like Bookmarks, Lists and Profile. The new version comes with an expanded Direct Messages section and the ability to let users switch between accounts faster and directly from the side navigation. It comes with new dark themes -- Dim and Lights Out.

Users express anger

Several users have taken to various platforms to express their disappointment over the update. "#NewTwitter in a word, hideous. Please listen to those of us who actually USE @twitter rather than your ivory tower engineers. Just because you can design it does not mean you should. Among ugliest interfaces ever. Don`t need live counters. Profile page is now artless. #Clueless," a user tweeted.

"It is garbage. I have a feeling you`re intentionally trying to kill your platform for all but corporate ad-shills," wrote another.

What's new?

1. More of What’s Happening:
Twitter said that the new design brings its users the same content but with more live video and local moments personalized for wherever you are in the world.

2. Easy Access to Your Favorite Features:
Bookmarks, Lists, and your Profile are right up front and have their own spot on the side navigation, making it easier and faster to jump between different tabs.

3. Direct Messages All in One Place:
Direct Messages have been expanded so you can see your conversations and send messages all from the same view. Now there’s less hassle switching between screens to send a message.

4. Login, Logout Struggle No More:
Whether you have one profile or a few, now you’re also able to switch between accounts faster, directly from the side navigation.

5. Make Twitter Yours:
The platform has introduced several themes and color options, along with two options for dark mode. This allows users to personalise their account.

"Today is a big step as we continue building Twitter to best serve the people who use it every day. This update also gives us a much stronger foundation to build on so we can continue to bring you updated features faster than before. We’re looking forward to hearing what you think about our new site, so check it out and take it for a spin at Twitter.com," the blog said.
