The app has remained in controversy ever since it was launched in India. It once again made the news after YouTuber CarryMinati posted a video on YouTube roasting popular TikToker Amar Siddiqui in the wake of the 'YouTube vs TikTok' battle. The video was an instant hit but was later taken down by YouTube.

Following this, the users started giving TikTok 1-star rating with the #bantiktok hashtag trending on Twitter. The app still has a rating of 4.8 on the App Store.

Another setback for TikTok came when a video of TikToker Faisal Siddiqui on acid attacks went viral, leading to more poor ratings on the Google Play Store and demand for ban to be imposed on the app.

In response, the platform said that it expects users to adhere to its policies at all times.

"Promoting a safe and positive environment is a top priority for TikTok. Our terms of service and community guidelines clearly outline what is and what is not acceptable on our platform. We expect users to adhere to these policies at all times," TikTok India said in a social media post.

"Over the last few days, we have acted on several pieces of content that violated our policies. We have taken action including taking down content, suspending the accounts of the concerned users and are working with law enforcement agencies, as appropriate,” it added.
