In what came as a major shock for State Bank of India (SBI) customers, the public lender's net banking and YONO, popular mobile application, services crashed! They have now been resumed. Significantly, the SBI online transaction portals were down for most part of the day on July 22. Notably, SBI account holders could not use these services for several hours, leaving thousands of customers frustrated. Several customers had taken to the micro-blogging website Twitter to post complaints on official SBI Twitter handle.

One SBI user by the name of Vinod Chauhan wrote, "why SBI online system is not working. This is down from last 7-8 hours. Is there anyone working to fix this issue (national bank system) and when this will be resolved?" Another user called Gaurav wrote, "SBI collect website is not opening since the morning causing serious problem to us. Please take some action to the earliest."

"Please check the online sbi collect page, it is not working. I need to deposit fees of my son. SBI online banking site is not opening. We cannot expect this from bank like SBI. Now ppl can't do banking online as well ..???," said another Twitter user. Meanwhile, the YONO users complained that they were denied access to the accounts and the app extends the waiting period if the user tries to keep logging in the services.

Even though the cause of this problem was unkown, it appeared to be a temporary glitch and has been fixed by the bank. SBI also apologised for the trouble on its Twitter handle. "Dear Customer, our services have resumed. We apologise for the inconvenience caused to you. We request you to try again and revert in case you face any difficulty," the bank wrote.

However, banking sources told IANS that the system was down due to maintenance work.
