Portronics Pico Bluetooth speaker review: Having too many options is not always the best thing. As exciting as it sounds, it leads to a lot of confusion, as in the case of portable speakers with several options available in the market offering impressive sound quality, battery backup, portability and of course, cost effectiveness. Recently, Portronics launched its portable Bluetooth speaker "Pico" with Bluetooth 4.2 BLE version and powerful 3W inbuilt speakers that easily connect with your Android and iPhone smartphones, PCs and Bluetooth enabled TVs.

We have used this all new Portronics Pico Bluetooth speaker, to check whether its worth buying or not. And, here is what we think of it -

Super light and easy to carry

The Pico is a mini cylindrical shaped compact speaker with a diameter of just 5.5 cm and height of 4.2 cm. It weighs only 50 grams making the speaker very easy to carry. You can easily hold it in your palm as you walk in the park or even carry it in your pocket during travel. The speaker comes in three colours - Red, Blue and Black.

Believe me, when you hold it in your hand, it feels like a tiny toy with almost no weight! As mentioned above too, the Pico weighs merely 50 grams, almost negligible for a speaker.

Quick Connectivity

The 'ON' button is placed underneath the speaker and you just need to hold it to connect the device to your smartphone, laptop or any other gadget. The super Portable Pico Bluetooth speaker comes with Bluetooth 4.2 BTE version which the company claims, offers 250 per cent faster speed than even Bluetooth 4.1. It is effective for a distance of around 28-30 feet, beyond that your Pico will start losing the signals!

Sound quality:

A speaker without good sound quality is not a speaker but just a box which tries to act like a speaker! Well, thankfully this low price portable stereo speaker does not need to act, because it comes with a powerful 3W inbuilt speakers which offer loud and clear sound in-spite of the dwarf size. But, for the Bass lovers, Pico will might not work well. Its sound and limited bass is perfect for home, office and travel locations only.

If you are a party lover, you may have to look at other options. But, Pico comes with the TWS (Truly Wireless Speaker) feature which allows you to link two Portronics Pico speakers together to enjoy true stereo sound output with left and right channels.

Decent battery

Pico Bluetooth 4.2 comes with inbuilt re-chargeable 300 mAh lithium ion battery, which lasts for 2-3 hours in a single full charge. We used the Pico speakers for approx one hour with full volume which consumed just 30 per cent of its battery. This hints that a full charge should allow you to play music for about three regular hours. At least you can watch a full movie without any worries on a single full recharge.

Price

The Pico Bluetooth speaker was launched last month at an introductory price of Rs 999. As of now, the company is offering a 20% discount, offering the speaker for just Rs 799.

Is it worth buying?

Rs 999 for an effective, loud and clear sound, reasonable bass, stereo conversion option (you need two Pico Bluetooth speaker), and super portability is not a bad option! If you need a Bluetooth speaker for travelling or home usage, then this is good bet.
