After dominating the smartphone segment in India, OnePlus is set to heat up the competition in the smart TV category as well with the introduction of its first-ever smart TV.  Last week, the company had confirmed that its first smart TV will be called OnePlus TV. Now, in a blog post it has confirmed that the device would arrive in September and India will become the first country to get it. At the same time, it also confirmed that the OnePlus TV would also be made available in other countries as well. "And now, I have a very exciting announcement to share with you - the OnePlus TV is set to launch in September, and it will be available in India first," OnePlus said in a blog post on Tuesday.

It added that the company has achieved great success in India over the last six years and is now excited to explore more opportunities in the country. India has been an important market for the Shenzen-based smartphone company which reflected when it decided to launch the OnePlus 7 series in the country on the same date as in the US and UK.

"Over the past 6 years, we have achieved great success in India in large part because of our passionate and supportive community. Even after all these years, we're excited to explore exciting new opportunities hand-in-hand with you. OnePlus TV is such an important product for all of us, and we can't wait to see it in living rooms all over India," the blog post from OnePlus read.

The OnePlus TV will also be launched in other markets like North America, Europe and China, once the company establishes partnerships with most of local and regional content providers.

The company has been working on its smart TV for the last two years now and will offer a flagship-level experience with its first product. The features and price of OnePlus TV are yet to be made official by the company. However, it should offer premium features for a relatively lesser price. 

"Our goal is for OnePlus to set the standard for future smart TV products, because we focus on every last detail. To me, designing a TV is about more than creating a high-quality display. A TV takes up a prominent spot in a household, meaning its design has to be worth viewing even when the TV is turned off," OnePlus CEO Pete Lau said. He added that this TV will not only become the center of smart home, but also the center of daily smart social hub. He said that he is excited to see how lives change after the implementation and increasing maturity of other advanced technology such as 5G, AI, VR and AR.
