All the platforms are consistently pushing limits to allow more participants on chat and take an edge over competitors. All for free! The latest development will give Microsoft Teams a competitive edge over Zoom and Google Meet which have gained popularity with more and more people working from home due to the ongoing lockdown. Microsoft Teams  claims to have around 75 million users on board right now.

“Sometimes you need to kick off a big project chat with a large group, or organize an ad-hoc discussion with staff at an event, but it is unnecessary to start a new team; perhaps you don’t all work together on a regular basis, or maybe you need a communication channel with a large group of people at an event. Group chats will be able to accommodate up to 250 users,” Microsoft said.

The new added feature will be available for all paid plans. Currently, only a group call of up to 20 people comes under the free plan. Those who opt for the paid plan, can also schedule meetings, and record meeting phone calls, along with audio conferencing.

You also get access to 1TB of storage on the paid version of Microsoft Teams.

The number of calls made using Microsoft's Teams video conferencing software shot 1,000 per cent in March as people collaborated online due to the coronavirus pandemic, the company announced last month. It also said a new record of 2.7 billion "meeting minutes" in a single day had been reached on the platform.
