The social media company will begin rollout of Meta accounts from August 2022.

The announcement was made via Facebook blogpost.

"You won't need a Facebook account to log into Quest starting next month. We're rolling out new Meta accounts that you can use with our VR headsets instead. This will give everyone more choice about how you show up in the metaverse," Mark Zuckerberg said in a Facebook post on Thursday.

With the new login structure, users will need to create a meta account as well as Meta horizon profile. Meta account will let users log into their VR devices, view, manage purchased apps in one place, the company said in a blog post released on Thursday.

Users may integrate Meta account to the same account centre as Facebook, Instagram and connect with existing social connections or interacting on Messenger, adding to virtual reality experiences, the blog post said.

After creating a Meta account, users will be prompted to create a Meta Horizon profile. Meta Horizon profiles will represent the users' social presence in virtual reality, with associated user names and avatars, the blog further added.

To control what people can see when they view a user's Meta Horizon profile, meta introduces three privacy options: Open to Everyone, Friends and Family, and Solo, the blog post read.

Further, the company added that as part of these privacy settings, users will have the option to set their Meta Horizon profile to private as well. People between the ages of 13 and 17 will have their Meta Horizon profiles set to private by default.
