"Lava will be proudly entering into a new category of Smart wearables under the brand name of Prowatch, that promises to redefine the segment on 23rd April, 2024," the company said in a release.

According to the information available, the Prowatch will have a circular display with a host of fitness-tracking capabilities.

Some reports suggest that the smartwatch will offer a tough and durable display. It is expected to come with a metal frame and rotating crown.

For the uninitiated, the company launched its first fitness band - the Lava Befit - back in January 2021.

Meanwhile, recent findings from the latest CMR survey report highlight a concerning trend in the smart wearables market. The report said that 72 per cent of users expressed dissatisfaction, attributed to poor quality chipsets and materials being used in smartwatches.

"While Lava understands the importance of affordability, it recognizes that customer experience remains paramount. Drawing parallels to the smartphone industry a decade ago, where Indian brands captured a significant market share but faltered due to poor quality products and inadequate customer service, Prowatch acknowledges this critical lesson for smart wearables as well. Breaking this cycle is imperative to ensure sustained growth and consumer trust," the company said in a release.
