Instagram Down Today News: Days after several users faced issues with Instagram, the Meta-owned platform again went down today i.e. May 22. According to reports, this time the outage was much bigger than the last one. Thousands of Instagram users took to the social media platform Twitter to complain about it. The users said that they faced a problem while logging into their accounts and could not access their feeds. Some of them also faced issues while posting stories.

According to Downdetector, the issue peaked at around 4:09 am today and over 1.8 lakh people reported the issue. Also, most of the people who faced problems were using Instagram App. 9 per cent of people were using Instagram on browsers and 4 per cent of them faced login issues. 

"User reports indicate Instagram is having problems since 7:56 PM EDT," Downdetector said in a tweet.

Meanwhile, Meta said that the issue was resolved as quickly as possible.

"Earlier today, a technical issue caused some people to have trouble accessing Instagram. We resolved the issue as quickly as possible for everyone who was impacted," a Meta spokesperson told Reuters.

The company did not disclose the number of users affected by the disruption. 

Outage tracking website Downdetector.com showed more than 100,000 incidents in the United States, 24,000 in Canada and over 56,000 in Britain.

Downdetector tracks outages by collating status reports from several sources, including users.

Meanwhile, there are reports that Meta-owned Instagram is set to take on Elon Musk-run Twitter with a similar micro-blogging text platform that is likely to be launched by the end of June. The Twitter-like platform, "Instagram`s new text-based app for conversations" is apparently codenamed P92 or Barcelona, according to Lia Haberman, who shared the news in her ICYMI Substack newsletter.
