Some users, who wanted to change their display name to Elon Musk on Twitter actually got blocked. The unverified accounts of users who have changed their display name to Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk will be locked on Twitter.

This move is an attempt by Twitter to restrict fake accounts after an increasing number of scammers imitating Musk by trying to dupe unsuspecting Twitter users out of bitcoins or crypto-currency, as reported by Times Now.

Those who try to change their name to Elon Musk with an unverified account and if their phone numbers are not linked with their Twitter account, the micro-blogging site will automatically lock-out their profiles. In order to get the same account unlocked the user has to go through a series of CAPTCHA verification and Twitter will ask the user to link their phone number to the account.

According to the report, in a bid to dupe new users by impersonating Musk and offering access to the latest in blockchain technology, the scammers have adopted this new method. They even ask the users for cash in exchange for tokens of a supposed new cryptocurrency. Musk even tweeted, " I want to know who is running the Etherium scambots! Mad skillz..."

Users have been told not to share any personal details, contact information or even banking information with handles on Twitter. One can easily identify any fake account just by their username. The verified accounts on Twitter will have a blue tick next to the user's name.
