ColorOS 7 review: The operating system is what defines your smartphone experience, yet it is probably the most ignored feature on a device, at least in the budget and mid-range segment. Thankfully, the smartphone makers understand that and are continuously making changes to offer a better experience. Last year, Oppo had unveiled the latest version of its ColorOS 7 and has started rolling out the update for its users – the recently launched Oppo Reno 3 Pro being the latest smartphone to get the same. I have had the handset for a few days and will post its review soon but I also took this opportunity to dive into ColorOS 7 and see if it actually makes a difference.

The ColorOS 7 is based on Android 10 and gives a cleaner look to the smartphone with new icon designs and better spacing. The users can of course choose between different icon styles for a more personalised experience. These include - Default, Rectangle, Pebble and customized designs.

The new version of the OS adds a dedicated ‘Dark Mode’ to the smartphone which is claimed to support over 200 popular apps, including WhatsApp, Uber, Instagram and more. The other additions to design and feel include new sounds for more real screen touches, covering 8 different features including Keyboard, Calculator, Compass, on-off switches, screen-off gestures and more. You also get the Always-on display which is already present on some other smartphones.

ColorOS 7 review: Better Experience

The OS adds several new features for video editing. It comes with OSIE or OPPO Screen Image Engine which helps third-party apps such as Instagram, TikTok, Vmate, Vigo, Likee enhance image quality and visual effect by increasing picture saturation & contrast and reducing noise.

The update adds Soloop – a small video editor which allows you to make short videos. A new gaming space has also been added which aims to offer a smoother gaming experience.

ColorOS 7 review: More Secure

Oppo has also added a few security features to its operating system, giving a more secure experience to its users. These include DocVault and Private Safe. The DocVault allows users to upload important certificates and documents to one integrated app. Meanwhile, Private Safe feature allows you to change the privacy of files, documents, photos and audios to private.

There is a new Multi-user Mode which supports three types of accounts. This means that multiple users can use the phone through different accounts. Over and above all else, the OS also protects your financial security by scanning the payment environment with the system and the app. To be on the safe side, this is one aspect that everyone wants, considering there are so many threats present online.
