Over the last few months, there have been several reports and rumours around the new Apple iPhone and the launch seems to be closer than ever. The new affordable iPhone is reported to have been named either iPhone 9 or iPhone SE2. However, the Cupertino-based tech giant is likely to have locked down on the former with the smartphone appearing on a e-commerce website.

The new iPhone was spotted on the Chinese e-commerce website, JD.com ahead of its rumoured April 14 launch. While the phone has been listed on the website, it only appears to be a placeholder listing, with no specs of the phone being revealed.

The listing doesn’t mention the launch date of the smartphone either. Earlier it was reported that the tech giant was planning a launch event in Germany which was later cancelled due to the coronavirus outbreak. Even though the situation hasn’t improved since then, the company is expected to go ahead with the launch, albeit an online one.

However, it is yet to confirm the exact launch date. The new Apple iPhone will compete against the OnePlus 8 series.

Reports suggest that the Apple iPhone 9 can come with a design to the iPhone 6 featuring a 4.7-inch LCD screen and TouchID. The phone could run the A13 Bionic chipset. It will be an entry-level iPhone, allowing Apple to target the affordable premium segment.

The bigger challenge for Apple, however, will be to sell the smartphone with half the world still under a lockdown. The company could launch the iPhone 9 at a starting price of $399 for the base variant with 64GB storage. This will make the smartphone a lucrative option for those using older models of the smartphone.
