Apple has been focusing on 5G capabilities for the top end of its flagship product, as customers are looking for powerful smartphones with improved connection, and with the iPhone 13 displaying bespoke 5G antennas and radio components for quicker speeds.

According to reuters, Apple's less expensive SE model is now getting a 5G update, which might entice budget-conscious customers to upgrade. Although 5G coverage is still patchy in many parts of the world, the capability provides buyers with some "future-proof" protection for when it improves.

"Since iPhone users hold on to their phone for more than 2.5 years, including 5G capability would be an attractive feature for users to upgrade their older 4G iPhone," said analyst Neil Shah of Counterpoint Research.

With the SE now priced at $399, it's unclear whether Apple would boost the price, passing on any of the greater costs associated with clogged global supply chains, Reuters mentioned.

According to IDC, the top markets for iPhone SE sales in recent years have been the United States, Japan, and Western Europe.

Apple is also likely to release a new iPad Air and a high-end Mac Mini, a computer without a monitor that is also a cost-effective route into the Apple product portfolio.
