Android 11 is here. Stealing some thunder from Apple’s late night announcement, Google on Tuesday said that it has released the latest version of its OS. Google in a statement said that the update is rolling out on “select Pixel, Oneplus, Xiaomi, Oppo, and Realme phones,” with other partners to follow. For those unaware, the update is already available on my Pixel 4 XL. Here are few features of the new version that should have you excited:

Notification changes

In the new update, Google will give your conversations priority over notifications, showing the former near the top of your notification shade. You can also set conversations to a high priority, allowing notifications to come through even if you’ve otherwise muted notifications.

Conversation Bubbles

Those who use Facebook messenger would be familiar with bubbles – a feature also available on Jio Call. The feature allows conversations to exist in floating bubbles that you can move around your screen and access from within any app. However, the developers will have to update their apps code to support the feature.

Built-in screen recording

While screen recording is being offered by smartphone makers, not all users have access to them. Android 11 will allow users to record content on their device — including audio from your mic, device, or both — without having to install a separate app.

Better Media Controls

Android 11 lets you quickly select your audio output from the notifications shade. Android 11 also provides more extensive media controls for interacting with your music in the notifications shade. Google says you’ll be able to switch between apps in the order they were last played.

Pixel only

Google is also keeping a few features for its Pixel smartphones only. Users can now swipe up and hold to access the app card view, from which you can opt to take a screenshot and edit an image or select any text on the screen.
