"There has been a lot of discussion ever since we announced that Phone (2) will have a Snapdragon 8 Series chipset. Well here's some news - it’s going to be the premium-tier powerhouse Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1," Pei said in a tweet.

While this is a clear upgrade from Phone (1), here we are going to tell you what upgrades this will bring:

  • According to Pei, the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset will improve the performance of the device by almost 80 per cent. Also, the opening speed of Nothing Phone (2) will be twice as fast compared to Phone (1), which was powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G Plus chipset.

  • The Snapdragon 8 Series chipset in Nothing Phone (2) not only improves the performance of the device but also provides better battery life and camera capabilities. Pie said that Phone (2) will be not just about speed but the 'complete package'. The Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset also offers better network connectivity.

  • In terms of camera, the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 features an 18-bit Image Signal Processor (ISP). This means it would be capable of detecting faces and focusing more quickly⋅ Also, it is capable of capturing over 4,000 times more camera data than the ISP used on the Phone (1). As a result, the upcoming smartphone would have features like Raw HDR, 4K recording at 60 fps and zero shutter lag performance.

  • Manufactured on Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company's 4nm process, the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 is "best-in-class when it comes to power consumption and heat management."

The Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 was introduced over a year ago. So why Nothing Phone (2) is opting for it over some latest chipsets? According to Pie, Nothing prioritises user experience over being first in the specs race. This means the company is trying to offer more reliability.  "It has been thoroughly tested and continuously optimised through numerous updates since its introduction a year ago."

Nothing Phone (2) to remain accessible and this is one of the reasons why the smartphone manufacturer is options for it instead of the latest technology.

"Sometimes the latest technology comes at a cost which isn't always justified from a user benefit standpoint. Choosing Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 ensures that Phone (2) remains accessible while delivering a significantly improved experience compared to Phone (1)," he added.

The company has not shared any details about the launch date and pricing of Nothing Phone (2). However, reports suggest that the smartphone would be priced aggressively and will come with considerable upgrades when compared to Phone (1).
