Who doesn’t fancy an Apple iPhone! The smartphone is usually in more demand than ever as soon as it is launched. While some wait and save to get their hands on the new iPhone, others have their own sad ways. A Chinese man opted for the later method and stole 14 units of iPhone 12 Pro Max, worth Rs 18 lakh. The man was supposed to deliver these units but decided to sell them instead. He was later caught by the police.

The delivery person, named Tang, was assigned the job of delivering 14 iPhone 12 Pro Max units from the shopping company called Meituan-Dianping to an Apple Authorised Reseller in Guiyang, the province of Guizhou. The delivery order was placed on November 14, according to a report by MyDrivers, a Chinese publication.

When Tang received the units, he cancelled the order and paid CNY 10 for defaulting on his job. This is where the fraud began. He did not return the units to the store and bolted away with them. The units had a total value of around CNY 180,000, which translates to roughly Rs 18 lakh.

According to the report, Tang had opened one box to use the iPhone 12 Pro Max, one he gave to his friend to pay off the debt he owed him, another one he mortgaged at a pawn shop for CNY 9,500, and the fourth one was sold to a mobile phone dealer for a less price of CNY 7,000. For those unaware, the iPhones are selling at CNY 1000 in China.

Tang used the money he earned to hire a BMW car for a fun ride at CNY 600 per day. He even bought himself new clothes that were expensive. He was nabbed by the police soon after. The four units sold were recovered while 10 others were also seized by the police. Apple store has banned the person from its network.

Legal action is also expected against the man.
