Apple iOS 16 release date and time: The US-based tech giant Apple will officially roll out the latest iOS 16 update in India at 10:30 pm (IST) today. The iOS 16 brings a host of new features to Apple’s mobile operating system. iOS 16 is delivering the biggest update ever to the Lock Screen, and new sharing, communication, and intelligence features that together change the way users experience iPhone.

iOS 16 also brought iCloud Shared Photo Library to seamlessly share a collection of photos with family, updates to Messages and Mail that help users stay in touch with ease, and powerful enhancements to Live Text and Visual Look Up.

The Lock Screen gets more personal, beautiful, and helpful with iOS 16. With a new multilayered effect, the subjects of photos are artfully set in front of the time on the Lock Screen, creating a sense of depth. Users can also change the look of the date and time with expressive type styles and colour choices.  Apple has also made changes to Focus. Now, users can have separate Focuses with customised lockscreens in iOS 16-powered devices.

Apple is bringing three new features to Messages, which include ability to edit messages, undo send messages to recall sent messages and the ability to mark a message thread as read. It has also brought SharePlay to apps. It is also bringing SharePlay to Messages, which in turn will enable users to share details using SharePlay directly from Messages.

It is bringing on-device dictation to iPhones. This feature will enable users to move between voice and touch simultaneously. Apple says that now, the keyboard will stay open, which will enable users to switch between using voice-based commands to touch-based commands easily. Additionally, users will be able to add punctuation and emojis using voice commands.

Live Text: This feature has been updates such that users can pause a video and interact with text on screen. Also, this feature is now available in Apple’s Translate app. Visual Lookup: This feature enables users to touch and hold a segment in an image and paste it in the company’s Messages app.

Apple is also releasing major updates to Maps. The company has introduced a new multi-stop routing feature that will enable users to add up to 15 stops to their routes in advance. Apple has also added a feature called Transit that makes it easier for users to see transit fares and balance of their transit cards. Additionally, the company is bringing its new city experience to six cities including Las Vegas, Chicago, Miami and Sydney among others. 

Family Sharing: Now, parents will be able to set age-appropriate restrictions to their kids’ apps. They can also set new device using this feature. Apple Pay Later: It provides users in the US with a seamless and secure way to split the cost of an Apple Pay purchase into four equal payments spread over six weeks, with zero interest and no fees of any kind.

Apple iOS16 rollout will start at 10:30 pm (IST) on September 12 in India. Apple iOS 16 update is compatible with iPhone 8 and all above iPhones.

Download and install iOS 16 on your iPhone

To install iOS 16 when the update is released, open the Settings app on your iPhone and tap General settings and Software Update. Once iOS 16 shows on your screen, you'll get an option to "Install Now", tap that, then just follow the on-screen instructions. Your iPhone will eventually restart, and will require you to input your pass key.
