According to  a report from WABetaInfo, a website that tracks WhatsApp, revealed that iOS 10 and iOS 11 users – who will mainly be iPhone 5 and ‌iPhone‌ 5C owners – will no longer be able to use the encrypted chat service after the specified date.

WhatsApp already stated on its Help Center that it currently provides official support iOS 12 or newer, so presumably ‌iPhone‌ models like the ‌iPhone‌ 5s, ‌iPhone‌ 6, and ‌iPhone‌ 6s will remain fully supported for the foreseeable future.

Users who intend to upgrade their ‌iPhone‌ and use the app after the above date can back up their WhatsApp chats to iCloud, and restore their chat history to a newer, supported device, the report said.

"WhatsApp will stop supporting iOS 10 and iOS 11 after October 24, 2022. This is also confirmed by reading an article posted on the official WhatsApp Help Center, that mentions iOS 12 and newer versions as supported and recommended operating systems," WABetaInfo reported.

If you’re using iOS 10 or iOS 11, you need to update to iOS 12 in order to continue using WhatsApp: it means you can still continue using WhatsApp on iPhone 5S, iPhone 6, and iPhone 6S, but you need to update your iOS version.

According to the report, by updating to a recent iOS version, you also benefit from the most updated security patches, so it is always recommended to update iOS.

In other news, in India, MyGov recently launched a new service on Meta-owned messaging application WhatsApp. The WhatsApp chatbot initiative will allow users to access a lot of important documents on the messaging application.  Digilocker documents such as the PAN card, driving licence, vehicle registration certificate can now be easily accessed via MyGov Helpdesk on WhatsApp.

Citizens will now be able to create and authenticate their own Digilocker account on WhatsApp and download documents such as PAN card; driving licence; CBSE Class X passing certificate; vehicle registration certificate (RC); insurance policy - two wheeler; Class X and Class XII marksheets; and insurance policy document (life and non-life available on Digilocker).
