"Reports by users showed more than 112,000 issues on Facebook's website, while 101,000 Instagram users and 516 WhatsApp users reported problems as of 6 pm ET," Reuters reported. The social media giant later acknowledged the issue and said the services are back online.

The social media giant Facebook acknowledged the issue and wrote on micro-blogging site Twitter: “a configuration change caused Facebook services to be unavailable to some people. We quickly investigated and resolved the issue.”

As per the down detector website, Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp were down for thousands of users globally. In this outage, Facebook users were impacted mainly followed by Instagram and WhatsApp. During the outage, the social media platform showed a message that stated, “We’re sorry, but something went wrong. Please try again.” Instagram also showed a similar message and the timeline didn’t load for users.

Downdetector tracks outages by collating status reports from a series of sources, including user-submitted errors on its platform. The outages might be affecting a larger number of users.

Notably, the outage is the second one in less than a month from the social media giant. A similar outage was reported on March 19 in which the sites were down for several hours. Facebook returned a “sorry something went wrong” error message.
