Twitter provides you the option to mute tweets that contain particular words, phrases, usernames, emojis, or hashtags. Muting will remove these tweets from your notifications tab, push notifications, SMS, email notifications, home timeline, and from replies to tweets.
Almost everyone uses Twitter now either to stay updated with the happenings or to share their own opinions and views. So, you might have seen content in tweets that you would like to avoid.
In such situations you can know that Twitter provides you the option to mute tweets that contain particular words, phrases, usernames, emojis, or hashtags. Muting will remove these tweets from your notifications tab, push notifications, SMS, email notifications, home timeline, and from replies to tweets.

However, it can be noted that muting words and hashtags only applies to your notifications and home timeline and you will still see these tweets via search. Also, if you have opted-in to receive mobile notifications when an account you follow tweets then too muting words and hashtags will not apply to these notifications.
As per the information provided by Twitter, muting is case-insensitive and muting a word will mute both the word itself and its hashtag. You can view a list of your muted words (and unmute them) in your settings.
How to mute words and hashtags?
Step 1: Click More from the side navigation menu, then click Settings and privacy.
Step 2: Click the Privacy and safety tab, then click Mute and block.
Step 3: Click Muted words.
Step 4: Click the plus icon.
Step 5: Enter the word or hashtag you’d like to mute. Entries can only be added one a time.
Step 6: Select Home timeline if you wish to mute the word or phrase from your Home timeline.
Step 7: Select Notifications if you wish to mute the word or phrase from your Notifications.
Step 8: Specify From anyone or From people you don’t follow.
Step 9: Under Mute timing choose between Forever, 24 hours from now, 7 days from now, or 30 days from now and click Save.
How to edit or unmute words and hashtags
Step 1: Click More from the side navigation menu, then click Settings and privacy.
Step 2: Click the Privacy and safety tab, then click Mute and block.
Step 3: Click Muted words.
Step 4: Click the word or hashtag you’d like to edit or unmute.
Step 5: Change the Mute from or Extend mute time selections, and click Save.
Step 6: To unmute the word or hashtag, click the muted button.
Muting notifications for a conversation
Step 1: Go to the Tweet detail of any Tweet or a reply in the conversation you wish to mute.
Step 2: Click or tap the more icon.
Step 3: Click or tap Mute this conversation.
Step 4: Click or tap to confirm.
