The Chinese smartphone manufacturer is giving a chance to Mi fans in small towns and villages to run and operate MI stores. The announcement was made when Xiaomi opened its 1000th Mi Store in India on Wednesday. The latest store was opened in Rewari, Haryana.

The applications to run these stores have been invited as part of Xiaomi's efforts to boost entrepreneurship in the rural sector, the company said. "Xiaomi is encouraging Mi Fans from small towns and villages, and other local individuals to run and operate these stores. Xiaomi invites all interested entrepreneurs to apply for a Mi Store via a simple online form on mi.com," it said in a statement.

With the help of this initiative, Xiaomi aims to create over 15,000 job opportunities in these regions and boost immense economic output. It also aims to open over 10,000 retail stores across its four offline channels in the nation by end of year 2019. In addition, 50 percent of Xiaomi smartphone sales is forecasted to happen from the offline market by end of this year.

Arvind Yadav, Head of Retail Business, Xiaomi India said that the company is humbled by the increasing love and admiration it has been receiving from Mi Fans, which definitely ties in with the consistent growth the brand outreach has achieved across the offline sector in India. It also announced the launch of Mi Studios, the latest addition to its new retail concept. "Furthering our offline presence, we are positive that our new Mi Studio concept will also significantly enhance our brand retail experience providing Mi Fans with the best of innovative Xiaomi products at incredibly honest pricing," Yadav said.

Earlier, Xiaomi had set a Guinness World Record feat by opening over 500 Mi stores across India which is the highest number of retail stores in the world to be opened simultaneously at the same time. The Mi store retail outlets are an extension of Xiaomi’s flagship Mi Homes to be found in tier 3 and below cities and towns across India, covering some of the most remote corners of the country.
