Solid waste management is a significant problem for India's urban local bodies, where ignoring sustainable development has increased waste generation. Effective waste management is a substantial challenge in Indian cities with a high population. For the last few years, Dimapur-based Municipal Corporation was also struggling in managing their dumping vehicles. Recently they have integrated a GPS tracking system to manage their vehicles.

A Delhi-based tech startup Onelap is appointed as a GPS tracking service provider to Chumukedima Municipal Corporation. Onelap Telematics is one of the leading GPS Tracking Service Provider In India. Chumukedima is a Government notified town of Dimapur district in the state of Nagaland. The town is located 14 Km away from Dimapur, on National Highway-29, situated in the foothills of Naga Hills. "We have decided to enable GPS tracking technology in all of our dumping vehicles for effective waste management. From the past few years, the quantum of waste generation has increased considerably; with the help of GPS tracking services, we want to manage our wastes more efficiently," said Mr Sariyongba, an officer at Chumukedima Town Council.

The Waste Management issue isn't a single district or state problem. The whole country struggles with it; in fact, the entire world faces problems managing their wastes. "From the past ten years we were facing management issues, it had been a challenge for us in these years, but after the latest announcement of installing GPS tracking devices in all our Municipal vehicles, we will be able to monitor our driver's location and can fine them if they skip any area of our district while collecting garbage in vehicles. After the integration of the tracking system, there is a sense of optimism among the management staff", said a senior officer at Chumukedima Town Council.

These days, not only municipalities but also fleet managers and transport owners also struggle to manage their vehicles, which isn't surprising as they have so many vehicles to manage that sometimes it is hard to oversee things. GPS tracking devices can also prove very handy for them, which will track their vehicles and monitor their drivers.
