National Pension System (NPS) is open to non-government employees where one can invest a fixed amount every month and get pension. The retirement scheme has two types of accounts- Tier 1 and Tier 2. Tier-1 account has been designed as a pension scheme. It has a lock-in period of 15 years, and provides income after that. Tier-II account, on the other hand, is like a savings account, where one can withdraw money anytime. Tier-1 NPS account also provides tax relaxation of Rs 50,000. Such facility is not available in a Tier-II account. Here is a list of top NPS mutual funds; their returns in the five years, and what Rs 1 lakh investment in each of the funds has grown to in those years.
