SBI Online: India's largest public lender State Bank of India (SBI) offers Non-resident Indians (NRIs) opportunity to open an NRE/NRO accounts with the bank. An NRE account is a bank account opened in India in the name of an NRI, for him to park his foreign earnings. Meanwhile, an NRO account is a bank account opened in India in the name of an NRI, for him to manage the income earned by him in India.

Your guide to apply for an NRE/NRO account with SBI Bank:

1) Fill the Customer Information Section: An applicant must fill Personal Details page first.
 
2) Once you fill this page and save the form, a NRI Customer Reference Number (NCRN) will be generated, which should be noted by the applicant. You will need it later to edit the form, if you desire, and to link the Customer Details in Account Information section in subsequent steps.

3) Fill additional details page after filling personal details page. An email with the NCRN and further process will be sent to the email address provided by you.

4) Fill the Account Information Section: Fill Type of Account page first and enter your NCRN (s) to link your Customer Information Section.

5) Once you fill this page and save the form, a NRI Account Reference Number (NARN) will be generated, which the applicant needs to note.

6) Fill Verification page after filling Type of Account page. An email with the NARN and further process will be sent to the email address provided by the applicant.

Documents Required:

-- Proof of Status: Valid Visa/Work Permit, job contract, valid PIO/OCI card, six months pay slip

-- Proof of Identity: Valid pages of Passport, Government issued National Identity Card at the country of residence, Driving License issued abroad, Utility Bills, Original copy of latest overseas bank account or existing NRE/NRO account statement carrying overseas address
