SBI FASTag Alert: India’s largest state lender the State Bank of India (SBI) has warned all its customers using the bank’s FASTag to follow the latest Ministry of Road Transport and Highways guidelines issued in the 15 May notification, to avoid fines. The bank has informed its customer via a tweet on its official twitter handle.

“All our customer using FASTag, please be guided by the Notification from Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, New Delhi dated 15th May 2020,” SBI tweeted.

“If a vehicle which is not fitted with FASTag or the vehicle is without a valid or functional FASTag, enters into FASTag of the fee plazas, then they shall pay double the fee applicable to that category of vehicle,” the tweet further said.  

On 15 May, the road transport ministry issued a notification saying that the vehicles with invalid or non-functional FASTag will be charged double the toll fee applicable to their category.

“The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has issued notification GSR 298 E,  dated 15th May 2020 for  amendment in the  National Highways Fee (Determination of Rates and Collection) Rules, 2008 which provide  that if a vehicle which is not fitted with FASTag or the vehicle  is without a valid or functional FASTag, enters into “FASTag lane” of the Fee plazas, then they  shall pay a fee equivalent to two times of the fee applicable to that category of vehicles,” the notification reads. 

Before this amendment, the user of vehicle was to pay twice on the fee plaza only if the vehicle didn't carry the FASTag and entered in dedicated FASTag lane, it said further.
