In case of SBI cheque book, then know that the state lender will issue the first cheque book to the customer only after completion of all formalities with regards to opening of the account. No charge will be recovered for issue of 25 cheque leaves in a year.

Thereafter, SBI will impose service charge on the account holders. The current charges prescribed for this are available at the Bank's website bank.sbi. This information can also be obtained from Branches. 

The account holders must use only the cheques from the cheque books issued to them by the Bank. As per the information on SBI website, the bank reserves the right to refuse payment of any cheques drawn otherwise. 

As a general practice, SBI issues one cheque book at a time or before exhausting all or nearly all cheque leaves issued previously. The cheques written by the account holder must be written legibly.  

SBI also gives the customers facility to stop payment in the event of the loss of cheques issued or any other reason. SBI cheque can be stopped with the bank on payment of a prescribed service charge. The current charges prescribed for this are available at the Banks website bank.sbi.

How to apply for a SBI cheque book? 

SBI cheque book request can be made by visiting a bank branch or online. Here is how you can apply for it online: 

1) Log in to SBI net banking account with your username and password.  

2) After login, a new page will appear here click on 'Request & Enquiries' option.  

3) From the drop-down menu, click on the 'Cheque Book Request' option.
