Are you a State Bank of India account holder? It happens a number of times when our accounts get debited even as the transaction is unsuccessful while making payment through POS at merchant shops, or while withdrawing money at ATMs. If any of these happens to you, there is no need to panic. As per the official SBI website, you should do the following to get your money back.

First of all, report immediately to SBI Contact Centre through 1800 4253800, 1800 112211 (toll free). The bank's representative will provide you a ticket number for the complaint. You can later track the complaint with SBI Contact Centre using this number. Alternatively, you can also send SMS to them "ATM ticket number" to 567676, for e.g. ATM AT429212345. 

According to the official website of India's largest lender, the time limit for lodging a claim is 60 days from the date of transaction.  

When will you get the money back? 

In accordance with the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) guidelines, the money is credited to the customer's account within seven working days from the date of complaint. 

What if you forget to lodge complaint within 60 days?

According to SBI, you can lodge the claim after 60 days to 120 days. "The claim can be lodged after 60 days to 120 days from date of transaction in good faith. Credit will be provided to the customer account only after recovery acceptance from the acquiring bank," the bank says. 

"However as per NCPI guidelines, claims for failed ATM transactions done on other bank ATMs cannot be lodged after 120 days from date of transaction," it adds.
