So, to ensure they do not lose their hard-earned money and yet get a house of their own under this scheme, they must know how to go about making the purchase. Notably, as many as 2,000 people have been duped of over Rs 3 crore by a person, who allegedly used official pictures, of the prime minister of India and the Government of India, to promote his organisation, promising these persons cheap houses under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, according to Hindustan newspaper. The details of the losses suffered by these people in this scam by a 57-year-old man were revealed recently by Delhi's Narcotics cell.

The pretext used was to provide them houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. In fact, according to Hindustan, the person also cheated four other advertising firms to the tune of Rs 1 crore. These firms were duped on the pretext of inviting tenders to organise an event, Rashtriya Awas Divas, for the promotion of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana.

The modus operandi by the scamster was through an NGO named LIC Policy Holders Welfare Organisation.
