Lost debit card? You dont have to call bank, block it on your own; follow these steps

Debit cards have become an important part of our lives. They are quite handy and very flexible when it comes to removing money from our banks. Debit cards help us in eliminating queues at bank windows to receive cash via cheques. All you have to do now is, insert your debit card in a bank ATM, key-in your PIN number, select the withdrawal option and feed the amount you want to remove. However, there are times, when debit cards can be frustrating to use. For instance, what if you just lost your debit card! There are many occasions where you can lose your debit card, either during travelling or misplacing or forgetting your purse somewhere, etc.

In such cases, there are many different procedures, which we need to follow. One such procedure is to apply for a new debit card, however, first you will have to block your old card. Now blocking your lost card also has another format, every time when you knocked the doors of bank saying i want to apply for a new debit card, because you have lost the old one. Then your bank will immediately ask you to first call their customer service number and block your lost debit card.

Calling to the customer service is also another headache, you have to provide details like account number, reason surrounding the loss, address and of course, you need to confirm your name. Then they forward you a block ID number, which you can give your bank to apply a new card. 

Some are not even aware of steps to follow in case they lose their debit card. They consider it a cumbersome process. But did you know, now blocking your debit card has got much easier. 

Many banks have different procedures to block a debit card, but there are some similarities. One simple step is just to log into your bank account. 

Here's how you can block your lost debit card.

Step 1: Login to your bank account with your username and password.

Step 2: Select "ATM Card Services>Block ATM Card" link under the "e-Services" tab.

Step 3: Select the Account, under which you want to block your ATM cum Debit Card.

Step 4: All the Active and blocked cards will be displayed. You will be shown the first 4 and last 4 digits of the card(s).

Step 5: Select the Card, you wish to block and click "Submit". Verify the details and confirm.

Step 6: Select the mode of authentication as either SMS OTP or Profile Password.

Step 7: On the next screen, enter the OTP password /Profile password as chosen earlier and Click "Confirm".

Step 8: A success message would be displayed with a Ticket No. after successful blocking of your ATM cum Debit Card. Note this Ticket No. for future reference.

Once you get the ticket number, you can go to your bank and provide them with the information. The bank will immediately give you a new debit card which will get activated approximately in two working days.
