The Income Tax Department has not just extended the deadline for filing Income Tax Return (ITR) for taxpayers, but has even made it easier for accessing verification of tax return data. In a latest development, the department has now launched a new 'e-Verify Return' for taxpayers, where taxpayers can make e-Verification of IT without even having a login ID. The same can be accessed by  clicking 'e-Verify Return' button in home page under 'Quick Links'.

When you open the normal website of IT-department, on the left corner of the page there is a section mentioned as 'Quick Links'. Below that section you will find options like Quick ITR filing, Link Aadhaar, e-Pay Tax/ challans and finally the newly added 'e-Verify Return'. 

Once clicked on e-Verify Return, you will be directed to a new page where details like Permanent Account Number (PAN), assessment year and acknowledgment number which one receives after filing the tax return.

It needs to be noted that, this facility is available for return filed for assessment year 2019-20 and onwards; return where digital signature certificate is non mandatory and returns not filed by authorised signatory or representative assessee. 

According to the department, authorised signatory and representative assesse are required to e-verify the return post login to e-filing at their respective capacity. 

In case of filing ITR, the department has introduced new instructions for taxpayers. For instance, taxpayer has to first fill ‘Part A General’ (Personal Information) correctly. Rest of the utility will function based on information provided in Part A General. For example, the field 80 TTB will be enabled only for Senior citizens based on the Date of birth and Residential status as per Part A General.

All relevant schedules to be filled for proper calculation and auto population of relevant fields. For example, if you have donations paid details u/s 80G then 80G schedule to be filled first so that the final value from that schedule will flow to respective field in Chapter VI-A.

On its website, the department has guided taxpayers to file their ITR before August 31, 2019, in order to avoid last minute rush. 

Recently, it even launched an 'e-Filing Lite', a lighter version of e-Filing portal with a focus on filing of Income Tax Return (ITR) by the taxpayers. The same can be accessed by clicking 'e-Filing Lite' button in home page. The current e-Filing portal having all the services can be accessed by clicking on 'Portal Login' button.
