The news of attempts being made to cheat people have been coming from different parts of the country, Brajesh Kumar said. However, no such case of cheating has yet come to light, he added. Several attempts have been made on people by fraudsters to cheat them. Banks have now started alerting their customers to not give sensitive account related information to anybody asking for it in the name of EMI moratorium or for beneficiary schemes like the Jan Dhan Yojana for women.

The government in its Rs 1.7 lakh crore relief package, announced a Direct Benefit Transfer of Rs 500 into each Jan Dhan account for 3 months.

The banks have been telling customers not to share their personal identification numbers (PIN), OTP or CVV numbers with anybody asking for such information. Many banks have received complaints on this.

The banks have been telling their customers that no such confidential information is required to avail benefits of EMI moratorium or for making contribution towards the government schemes on Covid-19.

The fraudsters are seeking confidential information by telling people that PIN, OTP or CVV numbers were required to complete the KYC or Know Your Customer formalities. The trick is being applied for both EMI Moratorium facility and fund transfer for Covid-19.
