While the vaccination drive being undertaken by the Government has been a welcome relief for the elderly and people above the age of 45 years with comorbidities, there is a fear among a section about the likelihood of adverse reactions due to vaccination. Many media reports have also suggested that there have been queries from the people to the insurance companies if their hospitalisation cost will be covered in the even of any major adverse reaction.

In the queries, people have raised doubts if any adverse reactions to Covid-19 vaccination leading to hospitalisation will be covered by the health insurance policies. 

“It is clarified that in the unlikely event of hospitalisation following adverse reaction to covid-19 vaccination, hospitalisation is covered under the health insurance policies subject to the specific terms and conditions of the policy,” an IRDAI press release said. 

Find List of comorbidities prioritised: 

The co-morbidities which have been prioritised include diabetes, heart failure with hospital admission in the past one-year, post-cardiac transplant, moderate or severe valvular heart disease, end-stage kidney disease on haemodialysis, a severe respiratory disease with hospitalisation in the last two years, primary immunodeficiency diseases/HIV infection and angina and hypertension/diabetes on treatment. 

How to register for the Covid 19 vaccine:   

Anybody who is going for a vaccination will have to show a certificate by any registered medical practitioner. The certificate can either be uploaded on Co-WIN 2.0 by the beneficiary while self-registering or a hard copy can be carried by the beneficiary to the COVID Vaccination Centres (CVC). 

1) Advance self-registration: The beneficiaries can self-register in advance by downloading the CO-Win 2.0 portal and through other IT applications such as Arogya Setu etc. 

2) On-site registration: People can walk into the identified COVID vaccination centres and get themselves registered on-site and then vaccinated. 

3) Cohort registration: Under this, the State and Union Territories (UTs) Governments will take a proactive lead. It will decide specific dates for vaccination where target groups of potential beneficiate will be vaccinated.
