Bank holiday today: If you were planning to visit a bank branch today to carry out some financial transactions or finish some pending paperwork, then you must note that the lenders may not be open for public dealing today in your city. The banks remain closed today i.e. May 1 every year on account of May Day also known as Labour Day as well as Maharashtra Day. Public sector lender State Bank of India's official calendar shows that its branches will be closed in Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chandigarh, Hyderabad, Kerala, Kolkata, Mumbai, Guwahati, Patna. This indicates that the bank's branches will be closed in states like Assam, Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Goa, Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra, Manipur, Puducherry, Telangana, Tamil Nadu,  and West Bengal. However, it's possible that the branches may be open for public dealing in other cities except those mentioned above.

A holiday, if observed by any leading PSB, is followed by other lenders as well. Thus, other banks including Punjab National Bank, HDFC Bank will also be closed for public in these states on May 1. 

Also, the banks in West Bengal will remain closed on May 9 on account of Rabindranath Tagore Jayanti. There is another holiday falling on May 18 on account of Buddha Purnima. The banks across the country will be closed on May 18 to commemorate the birth of Gautama Buddha. 

Thus, it's better for you to get your work completed on any working day this month except those mentioned above. You should also keep in mind that lenders remain completely closed on the second and fourth Saturday of every month. So, if you plan to visit your bank branch on Saturday, then you should do it in the first half of the first and third Saturday.
