7th Pay Commission: After 7th pay commission salary hike for over 20 lakh government employees of Maharashtra, new year cheer has arrived for over 8 lakh government employees of West Bengal. The employees of the state will be getting higher pay from January 2019. Though the decision was taken in June last year, it has come into effect from this month. The benefit will be derived by, not just state government employees, but also by teachers and others too.

The pay hike is in terms of increased dearness allowance (DA). The West Bengal government had announced an increase in DA from 100% to 125% with effect from 01-01-2019.

"........the Dearness Allowance from 100% to 125% with effect from 01-01-2019 in respect of the State Government Employees, Teachers and Non-Teaching Employees of Government aided Educational Institutions, Employees of Statutory Bodies, Government Undertakings, Panchayats including Panchayat Karmee and Municipal Corporations/Municipalities, Local Bodies etc," the finance department of the government had said.

It said that the rate of DA that some other employees are drawing as per the Pre-Revised Pay too shall be enhanced from the existing rate of 199% to 242% with effect from 01-01-2019.

The hike will be applicable for all the government employees drawing Basic Pay (i.e. Band Pay + Grade Pay + NPA, if any) up to Rs 80,000/- per month.

West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee on Thursday also assured that the government will clear all the dues by January.

The central government had also raised the DA of its employees to 9 per cent from 7 per cent earlier in August last year.
