7th Pay Commission: The new year cheers haven't stopped yet for the central and state government employees. First to get them were academicians and it was followed by the Centre's pay hike announcement. The Centre had announced a hike in the Dearness Allowance by 3 per cent making it 12 per cent. The move has benefitted over 1.1 crore central government employees and pensioners. Now following the Centre's move, the NDA ruled Bihar has also announced a hike in the dearness allowance making it at par with the central staffers. The Bihar Cabinet on Tuesday hiked the DA by three per cent, making it 12 per cent with effect from January 1, 2019.

"As per the Finance Department, government servants/pensioners/ family pensioners of State Government receiving salary/pension in revised pay structure have been granted 12 percent discount allowance/relief instead of 9 percent, with effect from 01.01.2019," said a Bihar Cabinet release.

The move will benefit around 4 lakh state government employees and six lakh pensioners. The move will put an additional annual burden of Rs 1,100.94 crore on the state exchequer.

With the announcement, Bihar has become the fifth state to implement the enhanced DA hike. Before this, Rajasthan had increased the DA for its over 11 lakh employees and pensioners. Odisha, Jammu and Kashmir, and Uttarakhand have also announced pay hike in form of DA for their employees. 

It's notable that Jammu and Kashmir has over 6 lakh government employees while Odisha has around 5 lakh government employees. 
 
Following the Centre's move, the Uttarakhand government had also increased Dearness Allowance to 12 per cent from 9 per cent for the state employees. This will benefit over two lakh state government employees and pensioners.
