7th Pay Commission latest news today on allowance: Central government provides Leave Travel Concession (LTC) allowance to its employees, officers and others. This is in form of money that is given while government functionaries are on leave from office and is used for travelling out of town on vacation. If you want to avail LTC, apart from your home town, you need to visit Jammu and Kashmir, Northeastern states and Andaman and Nicobar Islands and then only will your bill be reimbursed. Recently, the government has made it clear in one of its orders that Army officers can change their home town for the same purpose. However, this can be only once and that too it will be done in an extraordinary situation only.

The government order has reportedly stated that the home town mentioned once by the army officers while joining the job will considered final. In case he wants to make any change in his home town, he will have to get the recommendation of his HoD. If the HoD wants to change his home town, then the latter has to get the approval from the Ministry of Defence.

Travel area enhanced in February

Earlier in February this year, the central government had announced to extend travel facility for the government employees. Under the new norms, the central government employees can travel through private airline to visit their home or other parts of the country to avail of their LTC. Earlier they were obliged to fly through Air India only, but the same condition has now been removed by the government through an amendment. 

LTC for Kerala visit 

In the wake of floods in Kerala last year, hitting the state really hard, the then Union minister for tourism, KJ Alphons, had requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to allow the central government employees to visit Kerala on their LTC, thereby, promoting tourism in the flood affected state.

What is LTC

Under Leave Travel Concession allowance, the government employees get leave and they get the money spent on their tickets reimbursed. In a government order of 2017, there was a talk of not giving daily allowance on LTC to the central staff, because the central employees were earlier entitled to allowances that varied according to their ranks.
