7th Pay Commission latest news today: Around 52 lakh central government employees and nearly 60 lakh pensioners are eagerly waiting for an announcement that has been due since January, 2021. This has to do with dearness allowance (DA). Since, the DA announcement is directly linked with Dearness Relief (DR) for the central government employees who have retired, they are also waiting for the announcement that the Centre is expected to announce by Holi festival, says media buzz. However, Centre is yet to make any official announcement in this regard. Both 7th CPC benefits have been frozen till June 2021 by the Centre for Central Government Servants and pensioners.

DA Hike Calculation
On the basis of latest All India Consumer Price Index (AICPI) data, Prayagraj-based Harishankar Tiwari of AG Brotherhood said that DA hike due from January 2021 can't be less than 4 per cent for the central government employees as the December 2020 AICPI number is 342, which means the average AICPI for the July to December 2020 period stands at 335 bps or 3.35 per cent. As the DA hike rule says the minimum DA to be announced should be the next round figure which is 4.0. That is what central government employees are expecting for January to June 2021 period.

DA, DR benefit under 7th CPC pay matrix
As media is buzzing that Centre may announce DA, DR benefit restoration while announcing the DA hike ahead of Holi festival. Centre is yet to make any official announcement, but seems that DA, DR benefit for central government employees and pensioners is likely to get restored by July 2021. Means, central government employees' monthly salary and retired employees' monthly pension is expected to witness a huge jump from 1st July 2021.

However, there are chances of icing on the cake too for employees as the National Council of JCM — Staff Side has demanded from the Centre three instalments of DA and DR benefit to be given in one go. So, there will be 18 month arrears of DA and DR for near 1.12 crore CGS and pensioners. apart from this, their DA will go up to around 28 per cent which is currently at 17 per cent.

DR relief for pensioners is also expected to go up in the same manner as the DR benefit for the central government pensioners goes up in sync with the DA hike announced for the Central Government Servants.
