Teachers in Jammu and Kashmir are protesting for the implementation of the benefits of 7th pay commission. According to some reports, protest has continued now for the seventh day today.

The Rehbar-e-Taleem (ReT) has claimed that teachers are continuing their protest and will keep it going until their demand for the implementation of 7th pay commission is not met. The teachers claim they are yet to receive any formal communication from authorities over the issue.

There are around 40,000 teachers in the state who are availing the benefits of sixth pay commission as well as other state government employee benefits. They have indicated that their salaries are inadequate to maintain an acceptable lifestyle in the wake of rising inflation which is eating into their salaries.

Earlier in July, hundreds of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) teachers had held protest at Sher-e-Kashmir Park in Srinagar demanding implementation of the 7th pay commission recommendations and de-linking of their salaries from the HRD ministry's funding. They were detained by the state police when they started marching towards Raj Bhavan.

Elsewhere, a similar situation has been brewing. Teachers and professors of some universities in Bihar were also planning to go on strike over 7th Pay Commission related demands.  However, Bihar Deputy CM Sushil Modi had assured them of their pay rights while saying that the state government had already constituted a 3 member panel to look into their demands.
