Central government recently announced hike in dearness allowance (DA) for its employees as well as pensioners and also enhanced the travel allowance (TA). These central employees will now receive 5 percent DA on the fixed TA according to their salary and the city they are posted with.

Accordingly, the employees posted in Tier 1 cities have benefited the most, as their salaries have increased from Rs 810 to Rs 4320 annually. Similarly, the employees posted in Tier 2 and other cities will also get an increased salary from Rs 540 to Rs 2160 annually.

Here's TA is calculated

Harishankar Tiwari, former chairman of the AG Office Brotherhood, Prayagraj, told Zee Business Digital that when the 7th Pay Commission recommendations were implemented, the government had fixed the TA according to the city. In Tier 1 cities, it was fixed from Rs 1350 to Rs 7200 per month, while in smaller cities, the allowance stands between Rs 900 and Rs 3600 per month.

Notably, the government has divided the TA into 3 segments and is different according to the salary of the employees and the category of the city they are posted with. The calculation of TA is accomplished in following way.

1. For Tier 1 city, TA is Rs 7200 per month (maximum) for employees of Level 9 and above;
5% DA = Rs 360 x12 months on it
Benefit = Rs 4320 annually
Total TA = Rs 8424 per month

2. TA = Rs 3600 per month (maximum) for employees of level 3 to 8
5% DA = Rs 180 x12 months on it
Benefit = Rs 2160 annually
Total TA = Rs 4212 per month

3. TA = Rs 1350 per month (maximum) for Level 1 and 2 employees
5% DA = Rs 67.50 x12 months on it
Benefit = Rs 810 annually
Total TA = Rs 1580 month

4. Tier 2 Cities
TA = Rs 3600 per month (maximum) for employees of Level 9 and above
5% DA = Rs 180 x12 months on it
Benefit= Rs 2160 annually
Total TA = Rs 4212 per month

5. TA = Rs 1800 a month for employees of level 3 to 8
5% DA = Rs 90 x 12 months
Annual benefit = Rs 1080
Total TA = Rs 2106 per month
