7th Pay Commission latest news: With the start of the New Year,  the central government has also started pouring in more money into the hands of its employees. Right from extending 7th Pay Commission benefits to academic staff to approving a hike of over 200% in allowances for lakhs of Indian Railways employees, the central government is doing its best to keep the employees happy ahead of Lok Sabha elections, 2019. Now, in yest another important development, the central government has approved a massive hike of over and up to 300% in allowances for the central government employees handling cash and treasury. The Cash Handling Allowance and Treasury Allowance have also been subsumed in ‘Cash Handling and Treasury Allowance’.

Earlier, the allowances were classified into five categories based on the amount of the cash. Centre used to pay an allowance of Rs 230 for the handling of cash up to Rs 50,000, Rs 450 for cash over Rs 50,000 and up to Rs 2,00,000, Rs 600 for cash over Rs 2,00,000 and up to Rs 5,00,000, Rs 750 for cash over Rs 5,00,000 and up to Rs 10,00,000, and Rs 900 for cash over Rs 10,00,000.

Now, there are only two categories left. The allowances have been hiked to Rs 700 for cash up to Rs 5 lakh and Rs 1,000 for cash over Rs 5 lakh. Check out the notification below:

The Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances & Pensions said that the powers to grant Cash Handling and Treasury Allowance remain delegated to the Ministries and Heads of Departments who, at their discretion, may appoint Junior Secretariat Assistants / Senior Secretariat Assistants / Assistant Section Officers / Officials holding substantive post up to level 7 of Pay Matrix, to perform the duties of Cashiers.

So, central government employees interests are being taken care of through 7th pay commission salaries and benefits too.
