World Diabetes Day 2022 Theme

'Access to diabetes education' is the theme of this year's World Diabetes Day. The theme focuses on intensive diabetes education for healthcare professionals and diabetes patients.

Diabetes And Its Types

 

Diabetes is a disease that occurs when the blood sugar level in the blood is too high. There are different types of diabetes. Generally, they are Type 1 and Type 2. 

"In the case of Type 1 diabetes, the does not make enough insulin. Insulin is a hormone that is produced by pancreas and it helps control glucose levels in our bodies. In Type 2 diabetes, the body is unable to use insulin effectively to control blood sugar levels. This condition is also called insulin resistance. There are other types of diabetes as well - gestational diabetes, secondary diabetes and monogenic diabetes," said Dr Suhail Durani. 

If left undetected or inadequately treated, diabetes can lead to a wide variety of health-related problems and complication such as heart disease, stroke, eye problem, never damage and others.
