Income Tax return filing 2020-21: Income Tax India has issued an alert for tax payers stating that e-Filing portal services of the IT-Department will remain closed for six days in June. As per Income Tax India, individuals looking to file their return in June will either have to prepone their plan or do it after June 7 onwards. The e-Filing portal services will remain closed between 1st to 6th June, said IT department.

Earlier, the government has extended income tax returns filing date for FY 2020-21 till September 30.This had been done keeping in mind the hardship faced by common man during the pandemic.  

"The due date of furnishing of Return of Income for the Assessment Year 2021-22, which is 31st July, 2021 under sub-section (1) of section 139 of the Act, is extended to 30th September, 2021," the Ministry of Finance had said earlier.             

Meanwhile, IT department is launching new e-filing portal, which will be used to file routine ITRs and perform other tax-related works. Ahead of the launch, the current e-filing portal is being shut for six days.
