After the account is opened, the employee and the company both pay an equal amount to savings that can be used upon the employee’s retirement or when changing jobs. Currently, the rate of interest on EPF contributions is 8.15 per cent

To access the EPF account, employees are provided with a Universal Account Number (UAN), and it is necessary to link the UAN with your Aadhaar card number in order to avail various facilities provided by EPFO.

Aadhaar card can be linked to UAN through the Unified Mobile Application for New-age Governance, or the UMANG app, which is developed by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and National e-Governance Division (NeGD). The app is a one-stop application for availing all-important government services, including filing income tax returns.

Here is a quick guide to link your Aadhaar card with the UMANG app:

Step 1: Log in to the UMANG app using your ‘MPIN’ or OTP.

Step 2: After logging in, navigate to the ‘All Services Tab’ and choose ‘EPFO’.

Step 3: Choose ‘e-KYC services’, under the EPFO section.

Step 4: Choose the ‘Aadhaar Seeding’ option under ‘e-KYC services’.

Step 5: Enter your UAN and click on ‘Get OTP’. You will receive an OTP on your registered mobile number with your EPF Account.

Step 6: Enter your Aadhaar information. You will again receive an OTP on your registered mobile number and email address.

Step 7: Once the OTP verification is done, your Aadhaar will be linked to your UAN.

How to know if your Aadhaar number is linked to your EPF account?

Step 1: Visit the official website of EPFO –https://unifiedportal-mem.epfindia.gov.in/memberinterface/.

Step 2: Login by entering your UAN and password.

Step 3: On the member homepage, look for Aadhaar in the details displayed on the page.

Step 4: If ‘Verified (DEMOGRAPHIC)’ is written against your Aadhaar number, it is confirmed that your Aadhaar has been linked to the EPF account, and it has also been verified by UIDAI.
