City Union Bank Limited (CUB) announced on Thursday that it has launched a facility through which customers can now use Voice Biometric authentication for logging into the mobile banking app.

The bank mentioned in its exchange filing that the feature has been introduced for better security purposes.

“Now customers of City Union Bank will be protected from fraudsters since Voice Biometric cannot be compromised like PIN / OTP. Recorded Voice and Mimicked Voice will be rejected (sic)," the bank stated in its release. 

The bank mentioned that the feature of voice biometric login will shortly be extended for net banking users, the process is under development. Voice biometric will be one other option for the customer to log in, apart from existing modes like User ID/PIN, face ID, fingerprint authentication, etc. CUB also clarified that the customers can choose any one of these authentication options as per their convenience.

A Chennai-based start-Up M/s Kaizen Secure Voiz Private Limited, in association with the 5G Use Case Lab of the Institute for Development and Research in Banking Technology (IDRBT) with the support of the Department of Telecommunications and Department of Financial Services, Government of India have developed this technology. 

During the product launch the MD and CEO of the bank, Dr Kamakodi said, “This will be another milestone in terms of customer service and ensuring safe banking. The customers will have to register one time with their voice which will be validated on various parameters. Once registered, customers will be able to log in with their voice. We are sure customers will be thrilled to use this method of authentication which is simple to enroll."

The bank launched the facility a day after it released the provisional business figures through an exchange filing. The bank's total business jumped to Rs 96,347 crore from the earlier Rs 88,846 crore.
