Bank Strike On  November 19, Bank Strike News, Bank Holidays in November: The All India Bank Employees Association (AIBEA) has called for a nationwide bank strike on November 19. The move is expected to affect banking services across the country on Saturday. The AIBEA has decided to go ahead with the proposed strike as the association claims that the talks with Indian Banks' Association (IBA) remained inconclusive.

"In the absence of any concrete and positive developments warranting reconsideration of the strike, it has been decided to go ahead with the strike. Hence all our units and members are requested to go ahead and make the strike a success," the association said in a statement.

Why is the bank strike called?

 

According to AIBEA, the nationwide strike has been called to raise the issues of attacks on jobs and job security. 

"We reiterated our issues and demands arising out of the various unilateral decisions in violation of the existing provisions of Bipartite Settlement in some of the banks and the attacks on jobs and job security and vindictive actions in some other banks," the statement reads.

Bank Strike on November 19: Things To Keep In Mind

 

November 19 is the third Saturday of the month and therefore banks are scheduled to remain open. However, due to the strike, the services are likely to be impacted. It is to be noted that some ATMs may run short of cash as it will be a Sunday the next day. In case there is some bank-related work that requires a branch visit, it is wise to get it done on Friday.

Apart from second Saturdays and Sundays, there are four holidays this month - on November 1, November 8, November 11 and November 23.

According to the Reserve Bank of India, all these holidays will be 'under Negotiable Instruments Act'. For the uninitiated, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) divides holidays into three categories - Holiday under Negotiable Instruments Act, Holiday under Negotiable Instruments Act and Real-Time Gross Settlement Holiday and Banks’ Closing of Accounts.
