A dividend is usually paid in cash by a company to its investors from its earnings. It is calculated on the nominal value of each share.

In the case of ONGC, the face value of each equity share is Rs 5. Hence, the 10 per cent dividend means that the state-run company will pay Rs 0.50 dividend per share to its shareholders.

ONGC informed its shareholders through exchanges that the board has fixed the ex-date, record date and payment date of the dividend.
