Mutual Funds in January: Mutual funds bought Indian equities worth Rs 237 crore in January. In the large-cap category, fund houses bought names such as Reliance Industries, Kotak Mahindra Bank, and Maruti Suzuki. Conversely, there was heavy selling in stocks such as TVS Motor, ICICI Bank, and NTPC.

Further, given the handsome gains in the railway pack, mutual funds made fresh purchases in IRFC or Indian Railway Finance Corp. 

In the midcap basket, stocks such as Samvardhana Motherson, Paytm, and Voltas were among the top buys during the review period, while stocks that witnessed selling include Tata Communications and SJVN, among others.

Further, within the small-cap category, stocks like Tips Industries, Gillette India, and Godrej Industries were bought, while Navin Fluorine International, Emami, and NALCO were on the "sell" list.

Stocks in which MFs took fresh positions include Jyoti CNC Automation, Cochin Shipyard, and Medi Assist. Other stocks that MFs completely exited are Indiabulls Real Estate, Tanla Platforms, and Nahar Spinning Mills.
