Foreign Institutional Investors (FII) have reduced their stakes in HDFC Bank from 52.3 per cent in the December quarter (Q3 FY24) to 47.8 per cent in the March quarter. The latest shareholding pattern on the BSE shows that a total of 2,663 shareholders held 3,14,19,30,208 equity shares in Q4 FY24.

According to data, Foreign Portfolio Investors Category I held 44.95 per cent of the company with 2,415 shareholders, and Foreign Portfolio Investors Category II held 2.86 per cent of the company with 241 shareholders. 

On the other hand, domestic institutional investors (DII) increased their stake from 30.8 per cent to 33.6 per cent. While the December quarter shareholding only had the Government of Singapore as the entity with a greater than 1 per cent stake, the March shareholding has seen names like Vanguard Total International Stock Index Fund (1.17 per cent) and the Government Pension Fund Global (1.44 per cent) emerge as prominent shareholders.

As per Trendlyne, mutual funds have increased their holdings in HDFC Bank from 19.45 per cent to 23.17 per cent in the quarter ended March 31. The number of mutual fund schemes increased from 546 to 580 in the March quarter.

On Thursday, HDFC Bank's ADRs ended more than 5 per cent higher after the private lender shared its business update for the fourth quarter. HDFC Bank ADR listed on the New York Stock Exchange is trading at $60.09, up 6.54 per cent. 

Its stock in the domestic market was up by more than 3 per cent on Thursday on the BSE. The bank’s gross advances stood at Rs 25,08,000 crore as of March 31, 2024, up 55.4 per cent over Rs 16,14,200 crore as of March 31, 2023. 

The bank’s advances grew by around 53.8 per cent over March 31, 2023, and by around 1.9 per cent over December 31, 2023. 

Furthermore, domestic retail loans grew by around 108.9 per cent over March 31, 2023, and by around 3.7 per cent quarter-on-quarter (QoQ).
