  • Share Market Today LIVE | "Demerging the hotels division into a wholly owned subsidiary is a welcome move by ITC," says Apurva Sheth from SAMCO Securities

"Despite the positive news of dermerger, the stock price crashed by 4% after the announcement. There are a couple of reasons behind it:

    a. The demerger was widely expected and the market was anticipating developments on the same. Hence, once the cat was out of the bag the only logical reaction was to book profits and move on to the next stock.

    b. The demerger ratio announced is not quite favorable to existing shareholders. The company has decided to hold 40% shares in the WOS while 60% shares will be held by the company’s shareholders on a proportionate basis. Since shareholders are not getting one share against each share they are holding, they are disappointed.

Overall we believe this is an excellent time for the company to demerge the hotel business as the sector is going through an upswing in financial performance. Quarterly numbers in Q4-FY23 were excellent and the trend is likely to continue in Q1-FY24 too."
