Share Market HIGHLIGHTS: Indian equity benchmarks Nifty 50 and Sensex settled in green on Wednesday (August 9) amid buying in oil & gas, auto, FMCG, IT, metal, and pharma stocks. Moody's rating downgrade of certain US banks soured the mood in the early trade, but the market later recovered and closed higher. All eyes will now be on the Reserve Bank of India's (RBI) monetary policy decision, which will be released tomorrow.

NSE Nifty closed 61.7 points, or 0.32 per cent higher at 19,632.55, while BSE Sensex closed 149.31 points, or 0.23 per cent higher at 65,995.81.

  • Share Market HIGHLIGHTS | Dr Reddy's, Hindalco, JSW Steel rise most in 50-scrip blue-chip basket

    Dr Reddy's, Hindalco, JSW Steel and Tata Motors are among the top gainers in the Nifty basket, trading with gains of around 4-2 per cent. On the other hand, Divi's, Apollo Hospitals, Maruti Suzuki and UltraTech Cement are among the top losers, down up to nearly 3 per cent.

  • SAIL Q1 result preview | PAT expected to decline 71%; revenue to rise 1.3%

    Steel Authority of India or SAIL is expected to announce its June quarter numbers (Q1FY24) on Thursday, August 10. Ahead of the result announcement, shares of SAIL traded 0.41 per cent lower on BSE at Rs 92.24 apiece, declining for the second straight session.

    Berger Paints on Wednesday reported a consolidated net profit of Rs 354 crore for the quarter ended June, marking an increase of 39.4 per cent compared with the corresponding period a year ago. Its income came in at Rs 3,030 crore for the first quarter of the current financial year, as against Rs 2,760 crore for the year-ago period, according to a regulatory filing. Read more

    Page Industries, the manufacturer and retailer of innerwear, loungewear, and socks, and the exclusive licensee of the well-known brand Jockey International Inc., will likely report a weak set of numbers for the quarter ended June 30, 2023, due to a high base. The company, according to Zee Business Research, is expected to report a 7 per cent decline in its consolidated revenue at Rs 1,244 crore on a year-on-year (YoY) basis.     Coal India shares rise on Wednesday, a day after it posted a better-than-estimated set of numbers for the quarter ended June 30, 2023. The counter trades at Rs 232.35, up by Rs 2.10 on BSE. The coal major reported a 10.1 per cent fall in its consolidated net profit to Rs 7,941.40 crore for the first quarter of the current fiscal, dragged by higher expenses. The figure was better than Zee Business analysts' estimates, as the research desk had pegged the central public sector undertaking's (CPSU) net profit at Rs 6,412 crore, down 27 per cent year-on-year (YoY).     Coal India

The consolidated revenue of the largest coal producer in India, however, jumped 2.5 per cent to Rs 35,983 crore from Rs 35,092 crore in the corresponding period last year.

    Tata Power

    Zee Business research estimates the company's revenue to rise 7.9 per cent year-on-year (YoY) to Rs 15,636 as the power generation company is set to announce its first-quarter results on Wednesday. The company's EBITDA is expected to soar 58 per cent to Rs 2,655 crore, while the EBITDA margin is set to rise to 16.98 per cent against 11.61 per cent in the corresponding quarter last year.
